Resumen
Education is one of the most powerful variables influencing performance on neuropsychological tests. This chapter discusses evidence showing that many of the apparent cultural differences might be explained by differences in the quantity or quality of education. The importance of measuring quality and not only quantity of education is highlighted. Several methods to measure such quality of education are presented and findings from studies using each method are discussed. Finally, there are some preliminary considerations on the performance of illiterate people on neuropsychological tests. Comparing these individuals across cultures can help understand the contribution of education to the findings in cross-cultural studies.
