Resumen

An historical outline of the classifications of clinical forms of leprosy is presented, emphasizing the introduction of the indeterminate group and its importance in modern leprology. The present classification, based on the maintenance of that group and on the concept of polarity, has been proved satisfactory. It may perhaps be further improved, but its essential characteristics must remain.
